**In order to understand what I am talking about you need to know the following terms in accumulated vocabulary.
Accumulated Vocabulary:
- Track: When companies collect information about you based on your online behavior.
- Target: When companies tailor content about you based on the information they have tracked.
- Demographic: Common categories of the population such as age, gender, location(s), race and much more.
- Cookie: Data files that are stored on your computer when you visit certain sites, which are often used by companies to identify repeated customers and personalize visitors experience. To avoid this delete history often and this will speed up your loading.
Here is some questions you can think and answer for yourself. I have listed a couple answers.
- What do you think are companies goals in tracking your information? (Money and get their name out)
- What do you think of target and tracking? (Good and Bad)
- Do you think it is okay for companies to collect information about you? (Good- narrows searches Bad- invasion of privacy)
This weeks NEW web 2.0 tools are No Red Ink and Mixbook. First No Red Ink is about grammar and has nothing to do with tracking and targeting. No Red Ink as I have said is to help me understand grammar. Well not just grammar more like trying to figure out where to put words, when to put a certain words and other things. Mixbook on the other hand is completely about tracking and targeting. I did a Mixbook on Tips for limiting data collection. Have a look at my Mixbook it might help you in a way.
This week in class we have discussed over a lot things dealing with tracking and targeting. I hope that when you finish reading my blog you will either tell someone about what you learned or even try it yourself. Such as trying to get rid of cookies (and not the ones you eat.. :D) on your laptop or desktop.
On a higher note hope everyone has a great weekend with hot chocolate and warm cozy blankets. Blog you later!!
