Weekly Blog Oct. 26th, 2012

Weekly Blog:
This week has been crazy, I guess it is one of those weeks. The school week flew by. I completely forgot about weekly blog. This week in Introduction to Publication we learned about how to be real online. As you read my blog I want you to think about these questions.

  1. What does it mean to be real or fake online?
  2. Is it easier to be "fake" online or "real"?
  3. How do you explain the differences in peoples online avatars and what they look like in person?
Our digital literacy on being real online. In class we looked at avatars and the real person back to back. We compared and contrasted the similarity and differences of their avatars. Some were men and their avatars were women and one was an Asian lady with the exact looking avatar. I guess that a portion of people that play online like to have there avatars look just like them. On the other hand the rest like to be different, it might be from insecurities but I will never know. Do you know how to be real online?

Accumulated Vocabulary:
  • Represent: How you present yourself to others.
  • Persona: An image or personality you show to others.
  • Avatar: Graphic image to represent yourself online.
  • Anonymous: Hidden identity; relaxed information.
  • Inhibitated: Careful or restrained in actions or impulses.
There is risks of using or creating an online presence that is very different than online and there is benefits. People can lose friends because they think they are fakes or many other reasons. Video gamers can have benefits, they are suppose to be fake. The games can let you get rid of unwanted emotions. It is always to be very safe online whether it a game or not. People that feel as if they are not the prettiest color in the crayon box so they create a smoking hot or sexy avatar to feel accepted to the world. Some people might want to expand their friendships, so that is their motive.

This weeks NEW 2.0 web tool is Glogster. Glogster is an online poster pretty much. It has many things to do to make an awesome poster. It has many features that are useful. I did a Glogster on How to be real online. On my Glogster I put some advice for people who want to REAL online. I hope my advice is useful, enjoy. I added a YouTube video from an online gamer who also talked about being real online, so watch it!!

Also, my other web 2.0 tool was DDL again. It was about digital security, online communication, online journalism, and online etiquette. DDL had some cool features added in this week, such as the phishing game. Phishing, what is that? Digital security is about phishing, phishers, and scams. Phishers are people who try to get money out of you. They are sneaky! DDL had me to see what I thought was true or fake emails of phishing. I think that I failed! The phishers make it seem as if it really is your bank or your other financial businesses. They put the logo and everything. But you can tell if you have a phisher if you look for key things such as if they ask for your to verify your account. There is a lot more but that is the only one I could find. Online Communication is IMing, texting, blogging, and bookmarking. It also talked about when to write a formal writing or an informal writing. Informal writing would be using lol, l8r, haha, wrud, and you get the idea.

That is all for this week, but next week will be busy (I bet). Next week we are suppose to get into our building! It is about time! We have been in school for 9 weeks and we aren't in our building, what the heck!!!! Well, I'll be happy when it happens, too many let downs so far! Clubs are today.. <3 Photography!
Blog ya later.. :D
